Summer is shaping up nicely in northwest Michigan. Lots
of rain in the last month is a good thing
for area lakes, rivers, and streams. If we continue this trend, our fall
fishing should start off with a bang!
Summer fishing is in full force. Smallmouth fishing is
going very nicely. Lots of different types of water
hold these fish, allowing you an opportunity at completely different
fishing scenarios. You can also catch
these aggressive fighters with a number of different methods, again adding
to the flexibility of a "Smallie" trip.
Summer-run (Skamania) Steelhead fishing is well under
way. Fish are being hooked in all of the normal places.
These fish will quickly scatter with warming water and increased fishing
pressure. Your best options for Skams
are casting crankbaits or floating eggs or wigglers under a float.
It's time to turn your attention to King Salmon. Fall
dates are filling FAST, with over 85% full. These are
simply some of the most exciting freshwater fishing available on the
planet! Big, fresh, strong fish in tight
quarters make for the "Ultimate" trip. We fish two different
methods, both equally effective. Casting crankbaits
offers a hit like you've probably never experienced, nearly taking the rod
out of your hand at times. Floating
skein under floats allows us to target fish midday suspended in the many
log jams of the Manistee. Both methods
produce lots of hook-ups each day on FAIR-HOOKED, BIGHTING fish. You won't
be fishing to half-dead
Kings trying to spawn, drifting flies, bait, or lures into pods of fish
and "hooking" them in all parts of their bodies
(except their mouth!). We ONLY fish to fresh-run fish near the lake that
are just entering the river. These fish
will, and do, chase down and eat baits! Let us show you the excitement of
what fishing for Great Lakes
Salmon is REALLY about!
